Mix 107.9 Annual BBQ - August 14, 2019

Community supports The Fort Saskatchewan Furniture Bank
The MIX 107.9 Taste of Summer Charity BBQ was held in front of the Station Square Co-op today where hot dogs, chips and a pop were available for everyone in exchange for a minimum $2 donation.
“I was so pleased with the crowd that came out, even our local fire department were on hand for the BBQ. I can’t thank our volunteers enough for helping out today, and the community support for the organization warms my heart,” stated Kathy Stevenson, President of the Fort Saskatchewan Furniture Bank.
Wednesday's (August 14) BBQ raised a whopping $930 for the Furniture Bank (almost double the funds from last year and 30% more than 2017) and $100 for the Riverview Estate Condo Evacuees.
Kath explained, “The proceeds will be going to help pay our storage fees. We now have three storage units we rent to enable us to furnish two households, with help from our great volunteers, sometimes within hours. The largest chunk of our operating costs goes towards our three rental units – today’s BBQ really helps us out.”
With the recent evacuation of the Riverview Estates Condo, the furniture bank, is gearing up to help in any way they can. Kathy stated, “Today, we not only raised funds for the furniture bank, our community also contributed $100 to the evacuee fund that is being set up. We are keeping an eye on the situation, we’ve reached out to some of the evacuees and encouraged them to contact us via our Facebook. We have already been able to help one client impacted by the evacuation.”
Heartland Ford loaned their trailer to the furniture bank so any household items brought to the BBQ could be dropped off and later taken out to the storage units for sorting – ready for the next potential client.
“On behalf of the furniture bank I want to thank the sponsors today, MIX 107.9 for inviting us for the third year to be a part of this great summer fundraiser, Jiffy Lube, Station Square Coop, and Southfort Chev. And a big thank you to everyone who came out to support us – I am so proud of our generous community,” concluded Kathy.
